Boayan is the largest island in the municipality of San Vicente having an aggregate area of 1,327.31 hectares. It can be reached through a 45-minute to 1 hour motorboat ride from Poblacion proper.
During the 2008 CBMS survey, Boayan island registered a total population of 905, in 185 households, sparsely distributed in three (3) sitios (sitio Casuyan 336, sitio Daplac 301 and sitio Pulang Bato 268).
Next to sitio Panindigan, Boayan is the second largest fishing village in Pobacion with fishing as its main economic activity due to abundant marine resources. More than 78% of its total labor force is engaged in fishing.
The municipality of San Vicente stands out with the resource it posses – its beaches. San Vicente has one of the longest beaches in the country. The beach shoreline in Barangay New Agutaya stretches up to 14 kilometers. It is frequented by tourist of different nationalities, thus boosting also the local economy of San Vicente through tourism.
Adventure travelers known as “backpackers” discovered San Vicente, Palawan and explored the rugged natural wonders of the municipality which, since 1989, has the highest forest cover and among the widest biodiversity of any town in the entire island of Palawan.
Starting in the mid 1980’s, San Vicente, Palawan became the destination for those seeking a true ‘nature trip’. In global guidebooks like Lonely Planet, it listed it as a top must-see destination.
